Thoughts for the New Year

by | January 6, 2017

Happy New Year to all! I know that I kind of skipped posting about Christmas and jumped right into the New Year…but that’s kind of how it felt this past holiday season. It seemed like just a blur between all the shopping, the travelling, the crazy schedules, and the memory making!

It’s been a wonderful year, full of adventure, excitement, trials, and challenges. I feel like a learned so much, but at the same time, I look back and I see so many things that I wanted to accomplish and do that I didn’t. There were so many areas in my life I wanted to improve in and so many opportunities that I could have demonstrated more character and been a better father, husband, and friend. Often times when I get into these “reflecting moods” I often become discouraged. However, I was reminded by a wise man this past week that our focus must be upon Jesus. He must be our standard, our goal, and our inspiration in life. If I keep my focus on myself and all that I did or didn’t do, I will likely become discouraged. But if I look to Christ (Hebrews 12) with the knowledge that with Him nothing is impossible (Jeremiah 32:17), I can then take heart and face another day with courage. I may not be able to change the things that took place in 2016, but I can strive to do my best in 2017. It’s is our hope and prayer that you be blessed in the new year and you find hope and comfort in looking to Jesus.
