Do you dream? I’m not talking about a dream in the night or a passing wish for something you want. I am talking about about a deep desire that you have your heart — an aspiration, a goal, or something that is bigger than yourself?
Last night, Erin and I were talking about some of our big dreams and what God might have in store for our future, and we were having such a wonderful time, before we knew it, it was well past 2:00am! It was exciting as we envisioned what our lives may look like in 5-10 years and reminded me of a passage in Proverbs that I read this past week: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18).
The word vision means “dream,” and the word perish carries with it the connotation of having an opportunity slip through your fingers. I was familiar with this verse before, but I was fascinated with the idea of potentially missing opportunities in life because a lack of dreams.
The verse goes on to share that those who are obeying God’s law (which can be summed up in loving God and others) are happy and blessed! Sometimes it’s easy to focus on the dreaming the big dreams and miss the blessing and happiness that comes from making daily choices for God and others! The “daily grind” doesn’t sound as exciting as the dreams, but I believe that when we give our dreams to God, He will bring opportunities across our path that we never imagined. This requires a daily walk of obedience and faith. And I believe that we will find His plans to be so much bigger and better than our own!
Be encouraged (and keep dreaming big dreams).
