Tomorrow is July 4th, Independence Day. A day that we celebrate the birth of our country and the beginning of a new nation. I heard someone share once that while our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, they also acknowledged their dependence on a Creator. If you delve into the lives of these men, you find how many had a fear of God as well as recognition of His divine hand.
The well-known verse in 2 Chronicles stirred my heart for me and for our country today:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14
It’s amazing to see how the principles of God’s Word haven’t changed over thousands of years. Just like Israel, we have much to seek the Lord about. Humility, prayer, seeking, and a turning from sin are key to restoring God’s blessings upon our land.
This passage has given way to a great deal of introspection and a renewed desire to pray earnestly for my children and our country like never before.
Be encouraged.
