I am continually amazed by the profound insight and questions my children share. They often have a perspective on life, problems, and circumstances that is simple, yet rich with truth and sincerity.
While sitting at a red light recently, I impatiently watched for it to turn green when a loud car sped through the intersection, hoping to beat the light. I'm not sure whether it was the speed, the noise, or a combination of both, but my two-and-a-half-year-old suddenly blurted out from the back seat, "Who is that??!"
I smiled as the light turned green and slowly drove through the intersection. I told my inquisitive little guy that I didn't know—it looked like someone who was in a hurry. As I drove, I found myself pondering his question.
"Who was that?"
I was convicted.
So often, I am either too busy or simply don't have the heart to care as I should about the people all around me. People carrying heavy burdens. People weighed down by the trials of life. People experiencing loss and others celebrating joy. People who love life, and those who have lost hope.
I had to ask myself: Do I truly care?
Jesus did.
"And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick." — Matthew 14:14
Compassion is more than a feeling. It is love that moves us to action.
Whether Jesus was speaking with one person or looking over a crowd of thousands, His heart was always moved with compassion. That compassion led Him to love, to serve, and to meet the needs of those around Him.
Who around us has a need today?
Perhaps the better question is: Will we stop long enough to notice?
Be Encouraged.
