Yesterday, my heart was stirred as I listened to our Pastor expound the Word of God and take time to honor our country’s brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Thinking about the “daily grind” so many of us complain about makes me ashamed in light of their offering. As a Christian, I have an even greater reason to thank Jesus Christ for paying the greatest sacrifice, the ugly price for my sin, and offering me the gift of salvation. How much more should my heart beat with delight to bear anything for the cause of Christ and rejoice when I am in the middle of some difficulty and trial? As a millennial, I am afraid that much of my generation and the next have lost sight of the value of sacrifices such as the ones made before us! The truth is that those willing to die for a cause were already living for something greater than themselves. This truth can be lived out in Christians’ daily lives if we walk in the Spirit and follow God’s guidance. Let me leave you with this profound and challenging passage from Romans 12:1-2, and may each of us choose to offer ourselves daily to the Lord afresh and anew: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” |
