A small chorus that was really popular when I was growing up has been stuck in my mind this week . . . “Give thanks with a grateful heart.”
I have been challenged this week to continually develop a heart of gratefulness. We were able to make the trek out to Oklahoma to visit my family and while there we heard a thought-provoking message. He challenged everyone to not say “thank you” simply out of habit, but rather develop a heart of gratefulness.
Here are a few easy ways to get you on the fast track to gratefulness:
- Recognize where God found you and where you are now.
- Begin counting the daily blessings that He pours out.
- Name the people in your life who have loved, cared for, and guided you, making you the person you are today.
- Recall the answered prayers, the protection, and the daily provisions that God has showered on us all.
These ideas may seem a little redundant after coming off of a national holiday labeled “Thanksgiving”. But in reality, I am a forgetful person. I need to remember the goodness of God everyday. I know that when I do this, my attitude changes and my heart becomes grateful!
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” —Ephesians 5:20
Be encouraged.
