“But continue thou…”

by | June 13, 2022

Last night as I was reading one of my favorite books in the Bible, it was like the words jumped right off the page at me. Paul was writing to Timothy and he exhorts him by saying:

“. . .and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.”

2 Timothy 3:12-14

If you’re like me, you’ve probably wondered how there can be so much evil in the world we live in. There is wickedness running rampant. But even in the midst of it, God’s Word says, you just keep going — you just keep doing what you know is right. You keep walking step by step. “But continue thou . . .” — the phrase just played over and over in my mind.

It was right after this verse that Paul goes on to tell Timothy how important God’s word is:

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

2 Timothy 3:15-17

There is power in Scripture. It has the answer for every problem we will face. It is applicable for every situation. You may wonder, how do I keep going? What is the next step? I would encourage you to get in God’s word. Read it. Memorize it. Meditate on it. It will challenge you. It will correct you. It will instruct you. It will direct you. It will bless you.

Love,

Erin
