As I sit staring out the window at my frost-bitten flower beds, I’m reminded of the different seasons we walk through in life. The planting season brings me so much anticipation and excitement. When everything starts blooming, I just admire each little bud and blossom. It is a season of new life and wonder as the colors brighten. As fall and winter come knocking at the door, and the inevitable happens, everything seems so quiet and lifeless, but it is then I find joy in the rest.
It’s a time where everything seems to slow down and I always just compensate for the time I spent gardening with more time in the kitchen. This month, I have found the verse in Matthew 11:28 to be so applicable. Jesus says, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
During this holiday rush, where everything is begging to be added to the calendar and events just start piling up. I want to take time to come to Jesus in the quiet and stillness of the moment and find His rest. I want to enjoy every moment of the awe and splendor of change in the weather and scenery. I want to make time for the important things in life. I want to be strengthened in my relationship with Jesus and those around me, because I know the temptation to join in on the busyness has such a strong pull. I want to intentionally focus on the meaning of the season and find rest through Christ.
