“Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ, and go out into the irresistible future with Him.” – O. Chambers This statement grabbed my attention out of the devotional book “My Utmost for His Highest.” If we are not careful, we can be overwhelmed with dwelling on the past and become paralyzed with regret from mistakes. While learning from the past is good, it isn’t good when we stop short of taking these burdens to Jesus Christ. Our focus should be on Him, not ourselves. If we are consumed with the past, it will rob us of the joy and peace God desires us to have as we move into the future with Him. Jesus’ command to every Christian is simple and comforting: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 Be encouraged. Chad |
