Sunshine & Comparisons

by | April 8, 2024

I love the sunshine and often tell the kids that the sun makes me happy! Typically, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t spend at least a few hours outside, usually on the hammock, while the kids are frolicking around together. Here, I often find myself in deep thought while relaxing.

It’s Monday. It’s a little harder to get everything done. It’s not as exciting as the weekend. There is not as much anticipation or energy, for that matter.

Quickly, I found myself thinking of how I need to do better in some specific areas and how I feel like I am just failing sometimes. Almost immediately, though, my mind turned to someone else in comparison. Someone I thought I was accomplishing more than. I just started comparing, and in turn, it made me feel a little better about myself. It happened almost instantaneously, and if I hadn’t followed my train of thought, I wouldn’t have even noticed. I cannot believe how proud and how foolish I am to compare myself with someone else.

2 Corinthians 10:12b “…They measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”

The reality is that other people are not the standard. The standard is the glory of God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

We are all sinners in need of a Savior. We all need God’s mercy to make it through another day, and it is ONLY by His grace that there is anything good that comes from us.

I feel humbled when I view “my achievements” compared with someone else in this new perspective. I’m a nobody and will fail every day if I don’t lean on Him and ask Him for wisdom. I need Jesus every hour of my day, and I’m only reminded of that once again.

Be Encouraged.
