I don’t believe anyone knows for certain where the idea of “April Fools” came from, but as I made a mental note of what today was I remembered a quote from a man’s journal:
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
Jim Elliot sacrificed his life on the mission field while fulfilling God’s call upon his life. Dying at the young age of 28, many might consider him a fool for what he did. Years have passed since that man decided to “deny himself, take up his cross, and follow” Jesus (See Mathew 16:24), but the fruit of his life goes on today.
I know this is a rather sober thought to kick off the week, but we all have a choice today and every day this week to follow Jesus. God has called each of us to an area of service. It doesn’t matter how seemingly insignificant that service may seem; what matters is our obedience to our Saviour.
I am inspired today by a man who was no joke. He chose to love and obey God more than anything else. May that be our heartbeat every day.
Be Encouraged.
