An Amazing Week! Part 2

by | February 8, 2012

On the second day of our adventure in Florida, we went to Ponce Inlet, northeast of Orlando. There we visited an old lighthouse. The view of the Atlantic and of the inlet was simply amazing! I believe that day’s temperatures was in the upper 70’s(I am definitely missing that here in Chicago right now)!
It was the first time I had ever been inside a lighthouse, much less climb one!…I think Tommy Boy counted 203 steps. =)
As we toured this lighthouse, the familiar song about the lower lights that pointed ships to the lighthouse came to mind.

Brightly beams our Father’s mercy,
From His lighthouse evermore,
But to us He gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.

Refrain:
Let the lower lights be burning!
Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor struggling, fainting seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

Dark the night of sin has settled,
Loud the angry billows roar;
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.

Trim your feeble lamp, my brother;
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.
