I’m not sure if it’s a combination of growing older, having a lot of kids, a lack of vitamins, or what, but I’m more aware of my need for energy than ever.
This past week, I was reading 1 Thessalonians and came across a verse that made me pause and dig a little deeper:
“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” — 1 Thessalonians 2:13
In a nutshell, Paul was encouraged that the believers in Thessalonica didn’t treat God’s Word as just another message from men — they received it as the very truth, the Word of God. And what really stood out to me was the phrase “effectually worketh.“
I looked it up in the original Greek and found the word ἐνεργέω (energeō). It means: to be active, to effect, to prove oneself strong, to be powerfully at work.
From the Greek energeō, we derive the English word ENERGY.
How amazing is that? God’s Word is active, powerful, and energizing! Just like energy sustains the physical world, God’s Word sustains us spiritually. Without it, we would fade.
Think about it: the energy from the sun activates photosynthesis, keeps the planet warm, and supports all life. In the same way, the Word of God activates faith, provides spiritual strength, and fuels our walk with Christ.
I’m reminded again how vital the Bible is. It’s alive. It’s working. And we need it — not just for knowledge, but for strength, guidance, and life itself. Let’s not fail to get into God’s Word every day. Read it as if your life depends on it…because it does.
Be Encouraged.
