Can You Remember?

by | May 29, 2023

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. We take a moment to mourn and show our respect for the men and women who gave their lives to defend our country. It’s a day we celebrate true heroes and show gratitude for the price they paid for the freedom we enjoy today. As a whole, people are naturally forgetful beings (I am, for sure!). This is why God always reminded His people, the Israelites, to remember what He had done for them. Over and over again, He reiterated through Moses and Joshua the importance of remembering how He had brought them out of bondage and into the promised land.

I think it’s very fitting to be reminded to remember all the things that God has done for us.

This past fall, I was at a conference, and a friend asked me if I ever wrote down my prayers and the answers to them. I told him that I hadn’t, and he explained how God had greatly increased his faith when he began to journal the prayers that he was praying. He would mark the date and revisit those prayers as God answered them. What he was creating was a “faith-building journal.” He could now look back through the pages of answered prayers and remember all of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Needless to say, this inspired me to do the same.

Looking back over the months that have transpired since that time, and seeing the answers to the prayers I have prayed, have encouraged me more than ever. I am making memories of God’s power and ability to provide and meet all my needs. This gets me excited and fills my heart with gratitude.

Take time today to thank the Lord for all He has done and start making them more memorable . . . write it down!

Be encouraged.
