Finish Well

by | February 25, 2025

I was at a funeral this past week. Funerals are never easy…loss is never easy. There were so many questions as to the “Why?” that may never be answered. Though I walked away with my heart still hurting from the loss, I was touched and motivated to be like the friend that I had come to say goodbye to.One resounding theme carried itself through the service – “He lived well,” I heard repeatedly. I would have to add that he finished well. So many stories of his love for others, his service to the Lord, and his faithfulness to his family resounded in my heart. He left the earth earlier than most people would say he should have… but he finished well. His last day was spent doing what he was supposed to do. He went off to work and texted as he always did on the family text, encouraging and speaking words of blessing into each of his children’s lives. He told his wife he loved her. He went to work and was a blessing to his colleagues, and at lunch, he listened to his favorite podcast and read his Bible. He stepped into eternity shortly after that, being a man who finished well because he was faithful.
I hesitated to share this event with you, starting the week with something so sad. But I know that Karl would have wanted me to share his story because it’s not over. You see, Karl is with His Savior for all eternity because he believed by faith in God’s gift for salvation. If you have never heard of this good news, I encourage you to listen to the podcast below from Scott Pauley at Enjoying the Journey.
May this testimony overwhelm our souls and motivate us to live well to finish well.
Be encouraged.
