Never Lose the Wonder

by | February 17, 2025

I am grateful that in all the craziness of life, there are precious moments that make it all worthwhile. This week was such a moment for me and my two little girls. Grocery list in hand, I had just settled into the driver seat with two little girls in tow when my six-year-old said something like this: “Hey Dad, have you heard the story of the man that was in prison, and God made a miracle and unhatched his chains and opened the door?! Isn’t that so amazing? I immediately knew she was talking about Paul and Silas in prison and the miracle God worked on their behalf (See Acts 16:25-31), and I couldn’t help but love her adorable choice of words and how excited she was to share this with me. Sure, I knew that story. I had heard it since I was her age…but that’s not what made me think hard about what had just come out of my little girl’s heart. She hadn’t gotten over the wonder of something God had done in the past. It is a miracle that would truly have gone viral if posted on some mass media outlet in our day. My heart was touched, and I thought about how many things in God’s Word had just become so familiar to me that I tend to glance over these demonstrations of God’s power, mercy, and love. Not just in God’s Word, but the answered prayer, the daily provision, my salvation, and the many blessings that I enjoy are all examples of wonderful things that ought to overwhelm me to the point of continual gratefulness and praise to our awesome God. I think this may have been what David felt when he wrote Psalm 8:1-4:
“O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”
I am challenged with a renewed desire to never lose the wonder of God’s Word and His hand at work in my life today. Look for the wonder in it all.
Be encouraged.
