Kick the Whining

“If you have the whine in you, kick it out ruthlessly. It is a positive crime to be weak in God’s strength” – O. Chambers
This line jumped off the page as I read My Utomst for His Highest. Not only was the statement very pointed, but it also reveals a heart problem I have known all too well. I love how children are genuine. You know what they are thinking, and when they are having a hard time with something…well, let’s simply say it can come out in the form of whining. As you age, whining quietly retreats inside, not to be displayed so obviously. But it can be there, and God sees.
In Matthew 11:29, Jesus said, “Take My yoke upon, and learn of Me.” Taking on His yoke involves labor, but it’s not laboring alone. Jesus came to give us life abundantly and unspeakable joy. We still live on this earth and experience hardships and disappointments, but we can live on a higher plane, laboring IN the yoke WITH Jesus.
But how do you ruthlessly kick the whine out? I think a simple place to start is to remember what God has done for YOU. Start at the cross and dwell there for a moment. Think of what He did for you and me. The shame, the pain, and grief He bore. What Jesus Christ did for us on the cross should invoke an overwhelming sense of gratefulness and love. Let’s kick the whining away and lean into all He has for us in His strength, not our own.
Be encouraged.
