This weekend we were able to spend some quality time with a dear friend. As I sat next to him, he just started reminiscing about the past 92 years of his life — the hard times and the happy times. I couldn’t help but think that the “biggest moments” in his life involved different people and the Lord’s leading. He has lived a simple life, but a life full of faith.
I know you’ve heard that there are only two things that really last forever — the souls of people and the Word of God. But in the business of responsibilities and just the day-to-day workload, I find myself putting so much effort and thought into things that are only temporal.
Yes, there are many jobs that have to be done in a day’s time, but I don’t want that to take highest priority and focus. I want to focus on my relationship with God first and foremost. I don’t want to put that at the bottom of my list. I ask myself often, “What will count for eternity?” If God gives me 92 years on this earth, I hope to take the time to still invest in other people and still pursue my relationship with Jesus. I want to finish well. I want to finish strong.
Be encouraged.

P.S. I’m including the lyrics to one of my favorite songs. It challenges me every time I listen to it.
There will come a day
I know without a doubt
Around the throne the saints will bow
And lay down every crown
How glorious that moment
To see Him face to face
To hear Him say “well done my child”
You’ve finished your race
But for now the sun’s still rising
There’s work to still be done
While we’re waiting for the promise
Of what is yet to comeFinish well
Every day that we are given
Finish well
For the glory of His name
Finish strong
Until the Savior finally calls us home
Give it everything we have
Finish wellThere’s no truth in saying
We’ve seen our better days
These are the days to be courageous
Bold and full of faith
So wherever He may lead us
Whatever it may cost
Let the Church arise and lift
The banner of the crossFinish well

Every day that we are given
Finish well
For the glory of His name
Finish strong
Until the Savior finally calls us home
Give it everything we have
Finish well every day that
We are given
Finish well
