The Best is Yet to Come

by | April 19, 2010

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday with a group of awesome people here at Northwoods. I’m getting old. =) Circumstances around me are constantly changing, people move on, plans and purposes are redirected; so much seems to change. I have found only one thing that does not change and that is the Lord and His faithfulness. He has always been there. Everything that He has allowed in my life up until this point can ultimately be used for accomplishing His purpose. I recognize that I have not always chosen God’s best, but He has been faithful to redirect me when I stray off the path.
God really impressed John 10:9-11 on my heart two weeks ago and it continues to come back to mind. The abundant life, that’s what I want. Reading in John 17 this morning, I found a clear definition of what the abundant life involves in verse three.

“And this is LIFE eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Today begins the rest of eternity. True life is knowing Jesus Christ. Knowing is not just a knowledge of Him, but rather a deep, intimate relationship with Him. That’s Life.
As I think about this year of life that God has given to me, I look in anticipation to the next. As a follower of Him, I know that by maintaining that intimate relationship with Him, the best is yet to come.
