July 5th

by | July 5, 2011

I really didn’t know what to title this post…There have been so many things that have taken place these past two weeks, it would be impossible to describe it all.
I will have to say that God has been at work in my heart digging down deep…where it hurts. I have been overwhelmed at His goodness, His mercy, and His lovingkindness. And I am just as overwhelmed by the love of my family and friends. It’s the kind of love that Jesus demonstrated when He went to the cross saying “…Nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done!” (Luke 22:42). It is this love that can give us all true FREEDOM.
We celebrate our freedom as a nations on the 4th of July year after year and maybe sometimes we don’t think about what is behind that freedom. It was the love and sacrifice of men and women who loved something greater than themselves that has given us the freedom that we now enjoy today.
This is the kind of love that I need…that we all need. Not a love of self or a desire for gain, but rather a love that gives so much that the “self-life” is completely overlooked! This is the kind of love that I recognize I don’t have…but I desire to have it everyday of my life!
I am kind of preaching at myself today, but may you be encouraged as well to have that same love…a love that stems from a relationship with Jesus Christ!

PS
I did make it back from a trip to California. The Lord was good to us. We spent the yesterday with some friends celebrating the 4th. It was  good time of fellowship and the Lord blessed. Pics to come later.  =)
